Eleven Sports secures distribution with all operators in Portugal

Sports broadcaster Eleven Sports has now secured distribution deals with all four major TV operators in Portugal.

The latest agreements meant that Eleven Sports will be available for subscription on TV platforms in 3.9 million homes, achieving 100% Pay TV distribution in the country.

Eleven has struck deals with Altice, NOS and Vodafone alongside its original launch partner in the country Nowo. Nowo, formerly Cabovisão, was the smallest of the four operators, with a share of about 5% of the Portuguese TV market.

Eleven Sports launched in Portugal last May with exclusive live rights to the UEFA Champions League and La Liga. Since then Eleven has added exclusive rights to Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Scottish Premiership football, NFL, Formula One and Liga Endesa basketball to its raft of content in the country.

All content will be available on Eleven Sports via the four TV platforms for just €9.99 per month or €99.99 annually, mirroring the price point of Eleven’s online streaming service in Portugal.

Marc Watson, executive chairman and group CEO, Eleven Sports, said: “This is a significant moment in our development as a Group, which also establishes Eleven Sports as a leading player in Portugal for the long term. We have great content and a great local team in Portugal and we are producing the best ever coverage of the UEFA Champions League and our other properties. The future in this market is very bright.”

Jorge Sousa, managing director, Eleven Sports in Portugal, said: “Our strategy has always been to be platform agnostic and to be available to all customers whether they want to watch online, through apps or on a traditional TV. With these agreements, we are fulfilling this commitment and making our premium content widely available and easily accessible for the customer at a very competitive price. The long-term commitment shown by the local operators validates the innovate approach Eleven Sports has taken in Portugal. We are excited to continue our development as the go-to destination for premium sports, driving engagement with sports fans across traditional and digital platforms.”
