Simplestream adds offline viewing and Chromecast to VOD in a Box

OTT TV technology outfit Simplestream has added download for offline viewing and Chromecast integration across its mobile services to its VOD in a Box technology.

Simplestream now provides Chromecast receiver apps, the ability to adjust download bitrates and custom retention periods; and video and audio download support on mobile- and tablet-supported OTT services.

The company said that these features are already in use by History Hit TV, NextUp Comedy and Marquee, services that were designed, built and launched by Simplestream over the last year – and were rolled out at no additional cost to the customers.

“TV is more immersive, interactive and personalised than ever before, so it’s imperative to make sure our customers are equipped with the best tools and features to provide enhanced viewing experiences for their subscribers. The growth of mobile video is an exciting opportunity for our industry, driving increased investment and fueling consumption. Offline viewing capability and Chromecast integration are valuable differentiators to any OTT service, and help content owners and service providers remain competitive,” said Lewis Arthur, chief product officer, Simplestream.

“Untethered access enables our customers to give their viewers more control over their entertainment experience by connecting seamlessly with their favourite content, making these services more relevant and accessible. These are game-changing capabilities that have been months in the making, so I’m thrilled that they are now live and ready to be put to great use by our customers – and their viewers.”
