NTV+ launches Android TV app and ups 4K UHD line-up

Russian pay TV operator NTV+ has launched as an app on Google’s Android TV platform.

The first release of the app enables subscribers to pause and rewind live TV and access catch-up content, enabling them to view shows that have aired and that are included in their subscription over the past 24 hours.

Subscribers can register for the app via email and can then watch TV channels on TV using Android TV and on smartphones and tablets via the NTV+ mobile app.

The Android service is open to all, extending the company’s reach further beyond its existing base of satellite customers. The latter can however subscribe to the operator’s online TV offering to enable them to view content on multiple screens to complement their satellite subscription.

NTV+ said that over the next two to three months it would extend the functionality of the Android TV app to bring it in line with its existing mobile TV app. The operator plans to add the Amediatek video-on-demand service from Amedia, along with premium sports content.

Separately, NTV+ is adding a number of channels including three 4K UHD TV channels to its Economy package for western Russia and upping the price of the service by RUB12.50 (€0.16) to RUB750 a year.

The three 4K UHD channels to be included in the package are Home 4K, Fashion One 4K and Festival 4K.

The other new channels to be added to the pack are Fashion TV Network, Food Network, Zhiv!, Zoopark, Mama and Chanson TV.
