Spanish broadcaster Atresmedia has struck an agreement with Televisa to launch a new subscription video-on-demand service focused on telenovelas.
The new service, Novelas Nova, will offer more than 5,000 hours of content, including shows such as La Malquerida, Rubi, La Candidita, La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo and La Fuerza del Destino.
The service will bring new series that have not previously been seen in Spain, according to the broadcaster.
The service will be available via fixed and mobile networks.
Atresmedia’s Atresplayer service had 3,2 million users as of the end of April, according to ComScore, up 59% year-on-year.
Atresmedia recently teamed up with Spanish public broadcaster RTVE and commerical broadcaster Mediaset Espana to launch a new joint interactive platform, LOVEtv, based on HbbTV, with plans for a new OTT TV service to follow.
The trio said they were working together to launch the platform that will group the audiovisual content of all three with the objective of improving the diversity and quality of the free-to-air TV offering and the user experience for those accessing HbbTV services in the country.
A second phase of the project will see the launch of a new OTT TV service that will distribute additional content.
