Orange Moldova has launched a new TV offering following its 2016 acquisition of local cable operator Sun Communications, and has tapped Orange Group sister-company Viaccess-Orca to provide content security.
Orange has launched a new convergent, TV, internet and mobile offering using Viaccess-Orca’s Adaptive Sentinel conditional access system along with set-top boxes from Hi-Global Technology and CI+ modules from Neotion.
Orange turned to Viaccess-Orca as a cost-effective way to expand into TV as it sought to add video a and fixed internet to its existing mobile offering in the country.
“Our goal with acquiring Sun Communications was to offer our customers more than just mobile services. Since launching our new converged TV service, our mobile customers have access to our offering of 171 channels, 26 of which are in HD,” said Ludmila Nistorica, chief marketing officer at Orange Moldova.
“Working with Viaccess-Orca and our CPE partners greatly expedited this process, helping us to quickly enter the pay TV market and launch innovative new services, including convergent offerings, for an unmatched user experience. Ultimately, this partnership strengthens our leadership in the market.”
Orange Moldova acquired Sun Communications in October 2016. Orange is the largest Moldovan mobile operator, with over two million customers. Sun Communications was a payment service provider that offered cable and digital TV services under the Sun TV brand to customers in the cities of Chisinau, Balti and Cahul. The company had over 100,000 active subscribers at the time of the acquisition, and also offered internet and voice services to over 38,000 customers.
“As the only seamless end-to-end card and cardless CAS solution on the market, Adaptive Sentinel is the best choice for Orange Moldova, in terms of guaranteeing high flexibility, short time-to-market, and ROI,” said Chem Assayag, EVP marketing and sales at Viaccess-Orca.
“Our CAS solution, combined with Hi-Global Technology’s STB and Neotion CI+ module, puts Orange Moldova in a great position to increase their subscriber base and profitability, while meeting the strict security requirements for premium content.”
