Germany’s 1&1 taps ABOX42 for new IPTV service

German broadband service provider 1&1 has tapped ABOX42 to supply set-tops for a new IPTV service.

ABOX42 1&1ABOX42 is supplying its M30-Series set-tops to enable 1&1 to deliver the service, which includes live TV, VOD, catch-up TV, time-shift TV, PVR, HbbTV and video streaming services including Maxdome over multiple networks.

ABOX42 technology partner Zattoo is providing its multiscreen TV solution pre-integrated on ABOX42’s boxes for the service.

1&1 will deliver its TV service via unicast IPTV on DSL, VDSL and fibre networks.

“With more than four million DSL customers in Germany, 1&1 is a powerful player in the service provider market, and adding a compelling television offering to its portfolio will further strengthen its position,” said Matthias Greve, CEO of ABOX42.

1&1’s digital TV service, which is also available via an app, will cost €9.99 a month for subscribers to the operator’s DSL50 and DSL100 packages. The minimum contract period is 24 months.

Appls are available for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets as well as Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV devices.

1&1 is offering up to three simultaneous streams of a service with about 90 free-to-air channels. In addition to HD version’s of Germany’s public channels, a variety of genre- and country-specific packages are available.

The service provides recording, pause live-TV, instant restart and catch-up from the cloud.
