AWS Elemental has appointed former Ericsson executive Simon Frost as head of marketing and business development for the EMEA region.
Frost previously worked as global head of marketing and communications at Ericsson – a role he held for nearly six years.
News of the hire comes after Ericsson said in March that it would divide up its media assets into two separate units – Ericsson Broadcast & Media Services and Ericsson Media Solutions.
While Ericsson announced plans to develop the latter, it said it would “explore strategic opportunities” for Ericsson Broadcast & Media Services, as part of wider plans to refocus the business.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced its acquisition of Elemental Technologies in September 2015.
According to reports at the time, Amazon fended off competition from Ericsson and Cisco to secure the deal, which valued Elemental at a reported US$500 million (€450 million).
Amazon’s acquisition was designed to bring together Elemental’s video technologies with the AWS Cloud platform to provide media and entertainment companies with a way to scale their video infrastructure as they move to internet delivery.
