Sony and Panasonic are reportedly partnering with NHK to develop technology for 8K resolution TVs.
According to a report by Asian business newspaper, Nikkei, the three companies are joining with others to form an “all-Japanese alliance” that will split the development costs.
Broadcaster NHK will reportedly oversee the development of 8K broadcast standards, while Sony and Panasonic will both look to release 8K TVs in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Japan aims to take a global lead on 8K broadcasting by rolling it out as early as 2018, reported Nikkei.
