The science fiction entertainment channel will go live on July 8, offering original series, movies, Japanese animation, science fiction and fantasy programmes for OSN subscribers in the region – with Arabic subtitles available on most content.
The launch follows the signing of a new and expanded long-term deal between OSN and NBCUniversal International, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.
Syfy will further establish NBCUniversal International’s portfolio of channels in the regions, which includes E! Entertainment Television.
“We are excited to extend our channels’ presence in the Middle East and North Africa with OSN’s exclusive launch of Syfy,” said the managing director of NBCUniversal International Networks’ UK and emerging markets business, Colin McLeod.
“This popular, genre-defining global brand is sure to quickly engage viewers across the region with the range of compelling programming that delivers on Syfy’s ‘Imagine Greater’ promise.”
OSN’s chief content officer, Emad Morcos, added: “Science-fiction enjoys great popularity in the region, especially among youth. The addition of this globally renowned channel only on OSN further defines our credentials as the go-to network for all cutting edge content.”
