Orange to acquire Cellcom Liberia

Orange has entered an agreement to acquire 100% control of mobile operator Cellcom Liberia via its Orange Côte D’Ivoire unit.

Orange said the acquisition would enable it to provide its marketing expertise and world-class technical capability to further strengthen the network operator, enhance services to consumers and contribute to the economic growth of Liberia.

Cellcom’s founders and employees will remain involved in the business to ensure a smooth integration, support performance and continue long-standing relations with the Government of Liberia, said Orange.

Liberia has 4.3 million people, with a mobile penetration rate of 66%, significantly lower than other states in the region.
