Nos secures key football deal

Portuguese pay TV operator Nos has secured the rights to the matches of the country’s leading football team Benfica, beating off competition from Altice, owner of rival pay TV operator Portugal Telecom/Meo.

Nos agreed to pay €400 million for Benfica’s domestic and international matches. The contract also includes the right to broadcast and distribute Benfica TV, the club’s own TV channel.

The deal, which kicks off with the 2016-17 season, is for three years, with an option to extend it for a further seven.
