Mediapro and Movistar fail to come to agreement on BeIN Sports

Spanish broadcaster Mediapro and Telefónica have failed to strike a deal that would allow Telefónica’s Movistar TV subscribers to see Champions League and Europa League football on the platform via Mediapro’s BeIN Sports channel.

Mediapro issued a communiqué to the effect that it not signed a deal with Movistar and that the latter’s subscribers would not be able to view BeIN Sports content. BeIN Sports has exclusive rights in Spain to Champions League and Europa League football.

Mediapro has struck agreements with Vodafone, Orange and regional operator Telecable for the sports service, which will also be available via the internet on the Totalchannel OTT platform and via the Beinsports.es website.

Separately, Vodafone Spain is launching a new version of its Vodafone One service for the hospitality industry that will include Champions League, Europa League, La Liga and Copa del Rey football as well as matches from key international competitions.

The operator has signed a promotional agreement with Sony to provide Sony’s Android TV-based 50-inch LCD model to venues at a discount.
