Lenovo joins HDMI device battle with Chromecast rival

Accessories Lifestyle Photos Lenovo Cast Lifestyle Photo High ReChinese technology giant Lenovo has launched a Chromecast rival, the Lenovo Cast, to bring content from smartphones and tablets to the TV. 

The device, which will be priced at US$49, will enable users to mirror content on their personal smarpthones and tablets on the TV. The device plugs into the HDMI port on the TV and can then be linked to users’ devices to display content from any DLNA or Miracast-enabled tablet or smartphone.

The Lenovo Cast is comes in a dual form-factor that enables it be located either behind the TV or near it. Dual frequency WiFi enables it to transfer content from up to 20 metres.

The device will begin shipping worldwide in August.

“Today people want more from their devices – the freedom technology gives them to accomplish more. They want to share a variety of content from their smartphones and tablets such as online videos and games with friends and family on a larger screen,” said Liu Jun, executive vice president and president, Mobile Business Group, Lenovo. “The new Lenovo Cast is our latest device created to enable such personalised experiences.”
