The BBC has deployed geolocation specialist Digital Element’s IP geolocation technology, NetAcuity Edge, to manage the geographic rights of its online TV and radio content.
Digital Element provides geolocation technology for companies including Channel 5, Aertv, Videology, YouView, Disney, CNN, ESPN, Sony, CBS Interactive, ABC and Tesco’s Blinkbox.
“It is imperative that the BBC ensures compliance with licensing agreements,” said Matthew Wood, head of software engineering for BBC Future Media, online technology group. “By using accurate IP geolocation technology, we are able to ensure we abide by geographic licensing rights agreements.”
