French video games and animated content specialist Ankama has partnered with Netflix to make popular French kids animated show Wakfu available to the streaming video service’s subscribers worldwide.
The deal will give Netflix French and worldwide VoD rights to the series. Wakfu will be available on Netflix in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries from September 14, and will be availbel in France, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg when Netflix launches in these territories, as well as in Latin America from the autumn.
Netflix last week signed a deal with French rights collecting societies the SACD and ADAGP covering France, Belgium and Luxembourg ahead of its launch in these countries. According to the pair, the contract authorizes Netflix to exploit SACD and ADAGP covered right and provides for remuneration to authors, guaranteeing a strict equality of treatment of authors rights between all platforms present in the French market.
