Accedo partners with Norway’s NRK for VoD service

TV apps specialist Accedo has partnered with Norwegian public broadcaster NRK to power its VoD service for smart TVs.

The NRK TV VoD service launches today across smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Sony, and Philips, as well as on PlayStation 3 and 4 games consoles.

The VoD offering – which includes more than 40,000 free programs and a separate kids interface interface called NRK Super – was previously already available on PCs, tablets and mobile devices, and on Apple TV.

Accedo’s multiscreen solution, Accedo VIA, is powering the NRK VoD service.

Due to launch officially at IBC, Accedo VIA is a an app solution that enables operators, media companies and broadcasters to launch multiscreen services across multiple connected platforms, including PCs, mobiles, tablets, smart TVs, and game consoles.

Accedo said that its VIA platform is designed to solve the complexity for its customers in terms of technical challenges of multiplatform delivery and editorial challenges, where different platforms may require different promotions, messages and consumer bundling.

“In an increasing complex environment, we strongly believe in the need for constant innovation, giving our customers the tools they need to drive the evolution of the TV landscape,” said Accedo CEO Michael Lantz.

Erik Bolstad, head of TV and radio development at NRK said: “We are pleased to be working with Accedo to bring our service to multiple connected device platforms. We have been extremely pleased with the response to our recent applications launched and this is the next phase in reaching the connected TV segment with our portfolio of on-demand content, and bringing TV content back to where it belongs – the TV screen.”
