Magine appoints former Prisa exec as new chairman

Swedish cloud TV service Magine has appointed existing company board member and the former chief digital officer of Spanish operator Prisa, Kamal Bherwani, as its new chairman.

Bherwani, who has been on the Magine board since last September, replaces Michael Werner as chairman – though Werner retains a place on the board.

“In his role as chairman, Kamal will help drive and fulfil our founding vision of establishing Magine as the leading international cloud-based TV service, and will contribute significantly to our preparation for future international roll-out and expansion,” said Magine founder and CEO Mattias Hjelmstedt.

Bherwani previously held the roles of both chief digital officer and chief technology officer at Prisa and is credited with helping transform the firm from a traditional to a global digital media entity.

Magine launched last year in its home market of Sweden and has since rolled out beta versions of its subscription, multiscreen TV service in Germany and Spain.

The firm said that Bherwani’s appointment to chairman of the board comes at a time of “continued growth within both existing and new international markets” and said further announcements are due “over the coming months.”
