UK satellite operator BSkyB said that Sky Sports delivered a record 55,000 hours of sport last year across its six channels and Sky 3D.
Sky said that the sports output represented a 12% year-on-year increase, with its football coverage in particular attracting record viewing figures.
Sky added that it reached a record 30 million plus unique browsers a month on Sky Sports online, on mobile and on tablet devices.
At the same time, Sky’s director of entertainment channels, Stuart Murphy, said that Sky’s investment into original home-grown programmes resonated with customers in 2013.
“September in particular was a record-breaker for British and Irish entertainment on Sky, with original commissions accounting for a total of eight of our most popular ten shows. That’s the highest ever,” said Murphy, citing Karl Pilkington’s The Moaning of Life among Sky’s most popular original shows.
