News Corp shareholders put pressure on Murdoch



Several shareholders of media giant News Corp have signed a letter calling for Rupert Murdoch to stand down as chairman.

Eighteen influential shareholders have signed the letter, which calls for new, independent leadership. Murdoch survived a similar call for him to resign at the company’s last AGM.

The letter stated: “Given the recent reputational, legal and regulatory risks brought about by allegations of phone hacking and payments to police officers by News Corporation subsidiaries in the UK and subsequent investigations in the UK and the US, we believe the board is in need of independent leadership.”
