Telenet’s multi-play strategy paying off

The addition of new customers across Telenet’s digital TV, internet and telephony services and increased triple-play penetration led to a 6% revenue growth for the Belgian cable operator last year.

Telenet posted full year revenues of €1.4 billion in 2011, up from €1.3 billion in 2010. Digital TV subscribers numbered 1.4 million at the end of September, a 13% year-on-year increase. Broadband subscriber numbers were up 6% to 1.3 million, while telephony customer numbers increased 8% to 880,000.

Telenet said that despite a “challenging economic and competitive environment”, it managed to increase penetration of triple-play services. Over a third, 36%, of total subscribers took a package of three services, compared to 32% at the end of 2010. The increase in multi-play customers coupled with an uptake in digital TV services, Sporting Telenet subscriptions and price increase on basic packages saw ARPU increase 9% in the year to €42.10.

“In 2012, we will continue to pursue our proven strategy of up-selling more services such as digital TV, broadband and mobile to our 2.2 million customers,” said Telenet’s CEO Duco Sickinghe.
