The app was first released on the Samsung Smart TV platform in June 2011 for UK and international consumers, with a later launch on Panasonic Viera devices for the UK only.
The app offers video and text content drawn from BBC News operations in the UK and around the world.
“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to get the product…onto three sizeable platforms so quickly after launch; audience response has been fantastic,” said Aaron Scullion, executive product manager for the BBC News app for connected TV.
