PT claims third of Portuguese pay TV market

Portugal Telecom (PT) had 919,000 pay TV customers at the end of June.  

The company said it had added 89,000 pay TV customers over the six months. PT claimed a 32% share of the country’s pay TV market for its Meo offering at the end of June.

PT also said it passed one million pay TV and triple-play customers combined at the end of June, up 11.5% year-on-year.

The telco said that the success of its TV and triple-play services contributed to a record reduction in fixed telephone line losses to 23,000, down 36.7% year-on-year.

The operator said that pay TV and broadband customers now accounted for 42% of all retail revenue generating units. PT’s fixed RGU base grew 6.6% year-on-year to reach 4.632 million. FTTH customers numbered 173,000 out of over one million homes passed.

PT’s first half operating revenues were €2.67 billion, up 45%. EBITDA was €747 million, up 53%.
