Discovery promotes Wood

Discovery has promoted acquisitions exec Brad Wood from its central and eastern European-focused unit to its UK and western European division.

Wood, who was previously lead programmer, Discovery Networks CEEMEA, will become programming manager, lifestyle and entertainment, Discovery Networks UK and western Europe. He will join the team headed up by Paul Edwards, director of programming, lifestyle and entertainment, Discovery Networks Europe.

This comes as Discovery is rolling out its female skewing lifestyle and general entertainment network TLC in international markets. The channel, which airs non-scripted and scripted entertainment focusing on everything from food, family, and fashion with shows including Kate Plus 8 and Toddlers & Tiaras, recently launched in the Netherlands and is currently in eight European territories. The company hopes that it will be in 100-million homes by the end of 2011.

The CEEMEA unit, which covers central and eastern Europe as well as the Middle East, is currently searching for a replacement. A Discovery spokesperson confirmed to Informa Telecoms and Media: “A position became available in Paul Edwards team as programming manager, lifestyle and entertainment and Brad decided to join as of 1 August. His old position is still existing and the CEEMEA team are actively recruiting for it.”
