Burke replaces Zucker at NBC Universal

Stephen Burke has been named as chief executive of NBC Universal following the departure of Jeff Zucker as announced at the end of last week.

Burke will take up the role once US cable operator Comcast’s acquisition of 51% of NBC Universal from GE is approved. Burke is currently chief operating officer and executive vice-president, Comcast. The two companies also announced that they would not be making any additional structural or personnel announcements until the deal is closed.

Comcast chairman and chief Executive officer Brian Roberts said, “Steve Burke is an experienced, talented and visionary leader with over 25 years in the media and entertainment industry. Steve is one of the most well-respected executives in the industry, and I am confident that he will lead NBCU forward to a new era of growth.”
