DMC appoints broadcast head

Chellomedia-owned broadcasting facility the Digital Media Centre has appointed Mike Severyn as head of broadcast operations. In his new role, Severyn will manage daily broadcast operations including playout, network operations centre and master control room. He previously held consulting roles on various technology projects.

Volia launches English language teaching channel

Ukrainian cable operator Volia has launched a new English language teaching channel, English Club TV, on its digital tier. The channel will initially be broadcast on a trial basis. Volia Premium TV subscribers will need to update their programme guides to receive the service. 

UKTV goes Home

UK channel provider UKTV, owned by Virgin Media and BBC Worldwide, has launched the latest in its series of rebranded channels, Home, focusing on homes and lifestyle. The channel, available on cable operator Virgin Media, BSkyB’s digital satellite platform and digital terrestrial pay-TV service Top Up TV, occupies the slot formerly taken by UKTV Style.

TVI maintains rating lead but sees ad revs tumble

Dolby launches digital cinema service

Dolby has launched a pan-European satellite content delivery network for digital cinemas in partnership with broadcast services provider Arqiva. The service, Dolby Direct Distribution Services, uses Arqiva’s international satellite infrastructure to distribute feature movies, trailers, and advertising content direct to participating exhibitors and cinemas throughout Europe.

Thomson confirms DOCSIS 3.0 certification

Video technology company Thomson has announced that its cable modems and voice-over-IP gateways have received the DOCSIS 3.0 and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 certifications.
