Vewd unveils partnerships with Amlogic, Arion and ALi

OTT and hybrid TV specialist Vewd has teamed up with Amlogic, the global fabless system-on-a-chip (SoC) provider, to pre-integrate Vewd OS on chipsets designed for streaming media players, set-top boxes, and connected home devices.

Vewd said that the partnership significantly reduces CapEx and time-to-market for manufacturers selecting the Linux-based Amlogic S905X silicon, while giving access to the Vewd OS feature set.

“Combining our chipsets with Vewd’s software creates a market-ready platform with best-in-class features and reliability. Our joint solution empowers manufacturers to offer Pay TV operators a custom UI experience tailored to the next OTT generation,” said James Xie, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy, Amlogic. “

“We are pleased to extend the reach of Vewd OS into the Pay TV market by pre-integrating on Amlogic’s platform. Amlogic is the global market leader in the OTT device segment, so in this way, we can serve a broad range of OEMs and their operators. In an age of cord cutters and cord nevers, Vewd and Amlogic have created a device platform that gives operators the edge in growing subscribers and reducing churn,” said Aneesh Rajaram, CEO of Vewd.

Vewd has also teamed up with South Korean set-top box manufacturer Arion today partnered to deliver Vewd Core and Vewd’s HbbTV   and Operator App modules on Arion set-top boxes. The new agreement will result in the deployment of set-top boxes supporting the new HbbTV Operator App  standard throughout Europe.

“Vewd is the global leader in hybrid TV and has played a key role in the global spread of the HbbTV standard. As such, Vewd was the frontrunner when we sought a partner to launch HbbTV Operator Apps. Operator Apps help us efficiently scale across new markets and allow us to address more operators in a standardized way,” said SH Cho, CTO of Arion.

“We’ve been active in the HbbTV Operator App specification since the beginning, going back to our early discussions with the HbbTV Association many years ago. We’re proud to support Arion with their launch of this innovative solution that we know will delight their customers. Pay TV is evolving and we see HbbTV Operator Apps opening up new opportunities for operators to drive strong returns to their bottom lines,” said Vewd’s Rajaram.

Separately, Vewd, is to pre-integrate Vewd Atom on the ALi M3528 platform for set-top boxes, bringing OTT functionality to entry-level set-top boxes previously unable to run modern TV apps, according to the company.

“Operators increasingly seek smarter ways of integrating the best of OTT and broadcast content in their offerings. Vewd Atom provides an easy, efficient, and reliable solution to solving an operator’s content needs. By bundling Vewd Atom with our industry-leading M3528 chipset, we enable devices that can reduce churn and boost subscriber growth,” said Sophia Liang, CEO, ALi Corporation.

“ALi has led this market segment for many years and we’re pleased to collaborate with them to introduce a new category of cloud-enabled, content-first set-top boxes. Pre-integrating Vewd Atom gives operators a reliable platform ready for rapid deployment. With more consumers in emerging markets cutting the cord, the lightweight Vewd Atom was designed to delight subscribers with the latest streaming content, delivered on the most cost-efficient set-top box hardware available,” said Rajaram.
