Microsoft approaches ISPs for TV via Xbox

Microsoft is in discussion with French ISPs to allow them to use Xbox games consoles as set-top boxes, according to a report in French financial daily Les Echos.

According to the paper, Microsoft is in talks with French and other international ISPs to allow them to use the Xbox to deliver TV services via the device. Orange and SFR are among operators considering using the Xbox to deliver its services to multiple screens around the home as a complement to their existing devices and a way to offer multi-screen services without adding significantly to capex.

Microsoft has already struck deals with pay TV operators BSkyB and Canal Plus for the distribution of services to the Xbox.
