ARD and ZDF to cut internet activities

German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF are to significantly reduce their internet activities as a result of a new German inter-state treaty on broadcasting, according to local press.

ZDF has said it will cut its internet activities back by 70-80%, while ARD did not give specific details of its plans, according to a report in newspaper Handesblatt. Both broadcasters will focus more tightly on video content on the web.

The expansion of ARD and ZDF’s internet services has been criticised in the past by commercial broadcasters.
