More mergers likely in French TV market

More mergers and acquisitions are likely in the French TV market, according to the president of the country’s audiovisual council.

Following TF1’s recent acquisition of channels TMC and NT1, Michel Boyon told press that that there would be more consolidation in the TV industry. He also said ISPs, including Orange, should be allowed to have exclusive content agreements lasting for three years. This is longer than the competition council recommended last week. It suggested that such agreements should remain an exception and be limited to one or two years. Boyon said this wasn’t long enough to build a new service with a solid financial basis.
