BBC wants licence fee levied on iPlayer users

UK public broadcaster the BBC thinks use of its popular online catch-up service iPlayer should be restricted to licence fee payers only.

Currently, consumers without a licence fee can still access the broadband-delivered service, to the annoyance of BBC technology bosses. Future media and technology chief Eric Huggers said that non-licence fee payers using iPlayer are getting a “free ride”.
