Eutelsat set for Olympics boost

Satellite operator Eutelsat says it expects to generate over 2,000 hours of satellite transmissions over the course of the London Olympics, with broadcasters booking capacity on four Eutelsat satellites to cover the games.

More than 70 EBU Members holding rights will be able to access 12 HD multilateral signals via the Eurovision network which includes capacity on two Eutelsat satellites.

Eutelsat has introduced Carrier ID, a stamp on uplink signals that it says will enable satellite operators to more efficiently identify transmissions to their satellites and accelerate coordination with earth station operators, on its transmissions from the games.
