MTS grows broadband base

Russian telco MTS, which includes pay-TV operator Comstar UTS and is owned by conglomerate Sistema, ended the first quarter of 2010 with 1.4 million fixed-line broadband subscribers, up 4.7% quarter-on-quarter.

Revenues for Sistema’s telecommunications unit that comprises MTS, Sistema Shyam TeleServices and Sistema Mass Media were up 21.5% to US$2.64bn (€2.14bn) from US$2.17bn a year earlier.
