Canal Plus eliminates vuvuzela from World Cup coverage

French pay-TV broadcaster Canal Plus has tweaked the audio of its World Cup soccer broadcasts to reduce the noise of the vuvuzela horn that is blown by fans during matches in the competition, which is currently underway in South Africa. Many viewers in Europe have complained that the sound of the instrument, which drowns out the more typical crowd noises, has spoiled their enjoyment of watching games on TV.

In the UK, public broadcaster the BBC has received hundreds of complaints about the vuvuzela sound and is considering offering an alternative feed of matches, accessed via the red button, which would cut out or reduce the sound.
