EMEA leading global pay TV subscriber growth

Global pay TV subscriptions grew by 5.2% in the year to March and by 1.4% in the first quarter of this year, according to research carried out by Informitv.

According to Informitv’s Multiscreen Index, 100 leading pay TV companies in 30 countries, representing about 330 million subscribing homes worldwide, added 4.17 million video customers in the first three months of 2014 and 17.43 million over the year.

EMEA services gained the most subscribers, led by Russia’s Tricolor TV, which added 340,000 subscribers in three months.

Two third of services reported net subscribers gains, with the top 10 providers adding 2.45 million customers in the first quarter. The 10 companies reporting the largest losses collectively lost 280,000 customers by comparison.

According to Informitv, 65% of pay TV services studied now deliver to multiple screens.

Informitv said its figures do not include China as no reliable figures are available.
