Arris partners with Zon and Stofa

Video and broadband technology company Arris has partnered with Portuguese internet and TV service provider Zon and Danish pay TV operator Stofa, which have both opted to use its APEX3000 High Density Universal Edge QAM.

Zon has selected the APEX3000 to address growing demand for new services like video on demand (VOD) and nDVR.

Zon said it would allow it to increase operational efficiencies for its Timewarp VOD service as well as its transition to CCAP, at the same time as providing scalability for future services.

Stofa said it would use the APEX3000 to transform its network capacity, requirements driven by consumer demand for bandwidth intensive services such as over-the-top video.

“The levels of data our customers are consuming has risen exponentially as they embrace new services and we needed a solution to help meet this demand today and increase capacity in the most efficient manner,” said Thomas Helbo, CTO at Stofa & SE Telecom.

Jose Pascoal, head of engineering at Zon added: “Our customers have a real appetite for non linear TV services that allow them to consume their favorite content on their own terms. Our seven day catch-up service, in particular, has been very well received and has helped us to reduce churn and increase ‘stickiness’, but its success has made us rethink how we can deliver it economically.”
