Orange launches new Livebox 7

Orange has launched a new set-top/home gateway device, the Livebox 7, the latest entry in France’s ongoing battle for box supremacy between leading ISPs.

The new device is compatible with Orange’s XGS-PON fibre network,  which now offers speeds of up to 5Gbps downstream and 1Gbps upstream for residential customers.

Orange said it was also extending the use of Wi-Fi 6E to the vast majority of its customers, who will now be able to connect with a Livebox 6 up to the Livebox Up Fibre offer.

With Wi-Fi 6E, several devices can be connected simultaneously to one of the three available frequency bands to deliver what the company describes as a high-speed and latency-free connection.

For residential customers, the Livebox 7 is available as part of the Livebox Max Fibre plan, which has been upgraded to offer faster speeds: up to 5 Gbps downstream and 1 Gbps upstream.

Livebox Max customers have access to dedicated WiFi support and up to three included repeaters.
The plan is priced at €39.99 a month for six months, then €57.99 a month for new customers.

Livebox Up Fibre customers will have access to the Livebox 6 and Wi-Fi 6E with one repeater included. The Livebox Up Fibre plan is available from €33.99 a month for six months, then €51.99 a month.

Other plans and additional features are available for business customers.

Sustainability

Orange is touting the sustainability credentials of the device, which has been recognized with Bureau Veritas ‘Footprint Progress’ certification. This is an internationally recognized certification body that bases certification solely on the product life cycle (mainly manufacturing, transport, distribution, customer use and end-of-life).

Orange says the Livebox 7 has been designed to be repairable, with a 100% recycled and recyclable cover, and offers the option of setting a standby mode to reduce energy consumption.

“Thanks to Wi-Fi 6E, which is available with the Livebox 6 and 7, our customers can now enjoy the best of Orange’s networks. The Livebox 7 is more efficient meets the most demanding connectivity needs. Our eco-design approach has been, for the first time, certified by Bureau Véritas. We are once again at the forefront of innovation for the benefit of our customers” says Jean François Fallacher, EVP and CEO, Orange France.
