ITV acquires rights to 2023 FA Community Shield

UK pubcaster ITV has won the broadcasting rights to air the 2023 FA Community Shield across its linear channel ITV1 and streaming service ITVX.

ITV will deliver coverage of 2023 FA Community Shield on Sunday August 6, with Scottish PSBs STV and STV Player also to broadcast the football event.

Premier League and FA Cup winner Manchester City in 2022/23 will take on league runners-up Arsenal at the Wembley stadium in London.

The traditional curtain-raiser, which kicks off at 5.30pm, returns after last year’s match was played at Leicester due to a clash with the UEFA Women’s EURO Final.

ITV has been growing its sports portfolio after it recently secured the rights of the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. With the BBC, ITV will show coverage of half of the tournament’s matches across its channels ITV1 and ITV4 with simulcast and catchup on its streaming service ITVX. Match highlights will also be on ITVX and across ITV’s social media platforms. Build up programming will also be shown on ITV4 and ITVX ahead of the tournament.

The broadcaster will also provide free-to-air coverage of SailGP events across ITV’s digital and linear network, after signing an agreement with the sailing organisation.
