Sport1 boss Olaf Schröder exits, following reshuffle

Germany’s Sport1 has announced the departure of Olaf Schröder following a reorganisation of the company, with Dr. Matthias Kirschenhofer and Robin Seckler named new Co-CEOs.

Schröder who took over as CEO of Sport1 Medien AG in 2017, leaves the company with immediate effect and played a key role in expanding SPORT1 into a multi-channel sports platform.

Kirschenhofer and Robin Seckler will jointly head the company, with the sports platform to be divided into five independent profit centers.

This includes Sport1 Digital with the websites, online and social media offers, the free tv division with the TV station Sport1, the pay TV division with the two pay channels Sport1+ and eSports1,a new business area and the production division with the sports TV producer PlazaMedia .

The management of the five profit centers will report directly to the two co-CEOs.

Pit Gottschalk who was previously editor-in-chief and member of the management of Sport1 also exits the company.

In a joint statement Kirschenhofer and Seckler said: “We have both known each other and worked together for more than a decade. As a team, we will now make Sport1 Medien AG more efficient and powerful. Together we will initiate the changes to release energy and creativity and strengthen our competitiveness. In addition to our established core business, we will focus on expanding our digital activities in the future and establish new business areas on the basis of our wide-ranging platforms.”
