Megacable expands network in Sinaloa with new investment

Mexican service provider Megacable is to invest MXN800 million (US$45 million) in the expanding its network in the state of Sinaloa this year, following an investment amounting to MXN1.5 billion over the last two years.

The company said the cumulative investment would build a 9,000km fibre network that would allow it to target more households and enterprises with telecom, entertainment and IT services.

Megacable’s network in Sinaloa will pass over 750,000 homes as a result, about 90% of all households in the region, with a presence in the cities of Culiacán, Los Mochis, Mazatlán, Guasave, Topolobampo, Guamúchil, Navolato and El Rosario.

Megacable CEO Enrique Yamuni Robles said that Megacable would deliver 8,000 new jobs, including 2,000 direct employees.

“We have a great relationship with Sinaloa going back four decades. We have been present in the changes that have taken place in telecommunications in general through these years. We are proud to be part of the digital transformation, which is becoming a key element to increase the wellbeing of citizens, the productivity of enterprises and efficiency of public and private enterprises,” said Robles.

Guadalajara-based Megacable, which originated in the states of Sinaloa and Sonora, offers multiplay services in about 250 cities across 25 Mexican states.

At the end of 2022 Megacable rejected an offer from rival Televisa to combine the pair’s cable operations in the country.
