Altice Studio to shut down

Altice Studio, the cinema and series channel operated by the media arm of the Altice Group in France, is to cease broadcasting on March 22.

The channel, which is currently provided by Altice’s SFR service provider unit for €5 a month for SFR and Red by SFR subscribers, had earlier withdrawn from other platform including satellite service Fransat and the Canal+ pay TV service.

Altice Studio was operating in an increasingly difficult environment, facing competition from streaming giants such as Netflix, Disney+ and Paramount+ among others.

The channel was launched in 2017 and aired films and series from the catalogues of NBCUniversal, Gaumont, Pathé, Mars, EuropaCorp Wild Side, SND and MK2. However, Altice Studio also broadcast originals commissioned by it.

Separately, Altice France has posted Q4 and full-year 2022 results that saw revenue grow by 2.1% for the full year to €11.3 billion.

Q4 revenue was down 0.5% to €2.9 billion.

Residental service revenue was up 0.8% to €6.5 billion. Media revenue was up 5.6% to €351 million.

Full year EBITDA was down 0.6% to €4.1 billion.
