Starz and MGM+ offer cut price bundle on Amazon Prime Video in the US

Streaming platform Starz, which is owned by Lionsgate, has teamed up with Amazon to offer a bundled proposition with Amazon-owned streaming service MGM+ on Prime Video in the US. The bundle, which launches in the coming weeks, will offer Starz and MGM+ for $11.99 per month – a 20% discount vs. the combined price of both services. Both MGM+ and Prime Video are part of Amazon’s streaming ecosystem.

Alison Hoffman, president, domestic networks for Starz, said: “We are excited to join forces with Amazon to offer Starz with MGM+ to their customers on Prime Video. Starz is a complementary service to general entertainment offerings, so we’re thrilled to see bundling is here and believe there will be many more bundling opportunities to come.”

The bundled package offers cut-price access to series including Outlander, Power (both Starz), Godfather of Harlem and Rogue Heroes (both MGM+). Premium movies are also available, such as Top Gun: Maverick and the James Bond franchise.

Although the Starz/MGM+ bundling deal only relates to the US, it does suggest a business model that Lionsgate might seek to deploy more widely for its international streaming platform Lionsgate+, as it seeks to stay competitive against larger rivals like Netflix and Disney+. Lionsgate also has a stake in MENA-targeted streaming platform Starzplay, which recently forged an alliance with Egyptian streamer Watch It.
