Stranger Things breaks Netflix records

Stranger Things 4

Netflix’s 80s sci-fi series Stranger Things has broken Netflix’s record for the biggest-ever premiere of an English-language series.

Netflix said that Season 4 volume 1 of the series broke the record that previously was held by season 2 of Bridgerton.

According to the streamer’s Top 10 rankings, the series was watched for 287 million hours during the week of May 23-30 after only three days of availability.

The following week (May 30-June 5) saw Stranger Things break the record for most-viewed show in a week for an English-language Netflix series, with members streaming the show for 355 million hours. This record was also held by Bridgerton, which was watched for 251.74 million hours for the week of March 28-April 3.

However despite the success of Stranger Things’s return, the overall record for most-viewed show on Netflix across a seven-day period continues to be held by Korean drama Squid Game, which was viewed for 571.76 million hours viewed in one week.

Volume 2 of Stranger Things Season 4 will debut on July 1 with two episodes.
