Smart TVs at all-time-high in Germany

The share of smart TVs in Germany continues to rise.

According to GfK SE, just over 1.6 million TVs were sold in the German market during Q1 2022. Of this total, smart TVs made up 96% of all sales.

Smart TV market share in the country was up year-over-year by 2% compared to the same period last year, with 94% of Q1 2021 sales being smart TVs.

The figure has steadily risen in the past five years from 77% in 2018, with connected TVs now eclipsing all other sets.

The report also noted that larger sets are increasingly becoming the default.

TVs with a screen diagonal of 55 inches and larger “continue to be in vogue”, it said. About 700,000 55-inch sets were sold in Germany during the period, representing almost 44% of the market.

Even bigger sets also continue to increase in popularity, with more than 20% of Germans who bought a TV during Q1 opting for a screen larger than 65 inches.
