Twitch viewers now able to ‘Play on Luna’ thanks to new feature

Amazon has brought a long-awaited feature to live streaming platform Twitch that allows viewers to quickly play the game they are watching on the platform via its Luna cloud streaming platform.

Keen-eyed Twitch users have spotted the ‘Play on Luna’ button appear next to applicable titles. The button allows viewers with a Luna subscription to quickly jump into the game they are watching via the cloud.

The feature was first teased by Amazon in late 2020 when it promised: “Inside the Luna experience, players will see Twitch streams for games in the service, and from Twitch, they’ll be able to instantly start playing Luna games.”

While launching to significant fanfare in 2020, the cloud streaming platform still remains in early access and exclusively available in the US.

Amazon has not revealed subscriber numbers for Luna, but in terms of the cultural zeitgeist, the cloud gaming platform has fallen some way behind Nvidia’s GeForce Now, which allows PC players to access their existing game libraries, and Xbox Cloud Gaming, which makes up a part of the platform’s Game Pass subscription.
