150 million Fire TV devices sold by Amazon

Amazon has sold more than 150 million Fire TV devices.

The company has revealed that it has surpassed the milestone worldwide, with the company offering a wide range of streaming devices and smart TVs running the OS. Amazon first launched the Fire TV brand in 2014.

The news came as a part of Amazon’s quarterly results, where the company revealed that it is to increase its Prime subscription cost by 17% in the US.

Amazon has also announced an expansion into automotive entertainment, via a partnership with BMW. The new in-vehicle experience will allow passengers to use Alexa or on-screen touch controls to access more than 1 million TV episodes and movies on Fire TV. The first major launch of this will be in the US with BMW’s new 31-inch Theatre Screen for rear-seat passengers.

Elsewhere, Amazon has revealed its most popular Prime content for the year. It said that its high-budget fantasy drama The Wheel of Time was the most-watched streaming show on the week of its release, according to Nielsen. The series was watched for more than 1 billion minutes during that opening week.

The company also experienced highs for its sports content in the UK. Its coverage of Manchester United vs Arsenal became its most-watched Premier League match to date with more than 4 million viewers.
