Virgin Media announces broadband deal with Barratt Developments

Liberty Global’s Virgin Media has announced a partnership with Barratt Developments.

Barratt Developments is the largest housebuilder in the UK. The deal will see Virgin ensure that all of its new homes are capable of achieving gigabit speeds. The developer is set to build 15,000 homes in the UK in 2021.

This is the latest partnership between Virgin and a UK housebuilder, with the operator rapidly expanding its FTTH network as a part of its ‘Project Lightning’ plan. The operator has described the plan as “the single biggest private investment in the UK and Ireland’s digital infrastructure in more than a decade” with the creation of 6,000 new jobs.

Barratt homeowners will not be restricted to Virgin Media, with the operator confirming flexibility of other network providers.

Rob Evans, managing director of Network Expansion at Virgin Media, said: “This innovative and exciting partnership between Virgin Media and Barratt Homes will mean that new homeowners will have access to the UK’s fastest widely available broadband from day one of moving into their new home.

“Our connectivity will provide residents with the ultrafast and reliable broadband services which have never been so important to the way we live our daily lives. It is essential that all new homes have access to the fastest speeds available and we will continue to work with developers across the UK to ensure more homes are connected to such vital services.”
