BritBox launches Christmas advent line-up to attract subscribers

A month after its UK launch, ITV/BBC-owned streaming platform BritBox is seeking to boost subscriptions with a line-up of homegrown Christmas classics.

Across December, BritBox will feature over 100 Christmas TV specials from years past. A different special will be shown daily with highlights including sixteen specials from Only Fools and Horses, all four Downton Abbey Christmas specials, and festive episodes from Blackadder, The Good Life, French and Saunders, Outnumbered, Jonathan Creek and Birds of a Feather. BritBox’s ‘Very Christie Christmas’ will also launch in mid-December highlighting over 100 episodes of Agatha Christie classics.

Reemah Sakaan (pictured), group director ITV SVOD, commented: “The Christmas special is a unique trait of British TV and we are delighted that our new streaming service opens up this treasure trove of laughs, dramas, beloved characters and stories. We hope that everyone will enjoy exploring our massive collection of Christmas Crackers.”

In a separate development, LoginRadius, a cloud-based customer identity (CIAM) firm, has announced that the LoginRadius Identity Platform will power BritBox on a global basis. LoginRadius will work alongside vendors, including Akamai (content distribution), Irdeto (security), Deltatre (platform), and ITV’s internal team. It will play a key role in helping BritBox manage the expected growth and scale of the service while improving customer identity and experience. “We have built an outstanding new agency team of streaming, entertainment, and data specialists at the top of their fields to complement the expertise of our team here at BritBox,” said Sakaan.
