French transmission services provider TDF has welcomed plans for the modernisation of the country’s digital-terrestrial TV network unveiled by the country’s Forum AudioVisuel Numérique (FAVN).
The FAVN, which was commissioned to undertake the work by the Commission Technique d’Experts du Numérique (CTEN) organised under the aegis of media regulator the CSA, has submitted a report on the technical specifications for the future of the DTT platform to enable the rollout of 4K UHD services before the Paris Olympic Games due to take place in 2024.
The FAVN’s report sets specifications for the distribution and compression of TV signals based on DVB-T2 and HEVC and, according to the TDF, provides visibility for the manufacture of reception equipment.
