Unitymedia expands fibre network

Liberty Global-owned German cable operator Unitymedia is expanding its fibre-to-the-building network by connecting 180 individual homes and apartment complexes in the city of Korntal-Münchingen in Baden-Württemberg.

Work on the network expansion will begin in the middle of this year, with the operator spending around €1 million to take its fibre network to around 600 additional households.

Civil engineering work for the latest expansion of Unitymedia’s network was carried out by Netze BW in the course of an expansion of the city’s power grid by Energieversorgung Strohgäu GmbH.

Joachim Wolf, mayor of Korntal-Münchingen, said he was “very pleased” that residents of the area would be “able to enjoy much higher bandwidth by the end of the year”, thanks to the expansion of the network.
