Sky Italia taps Nagra for DVB-T pay TV security

Sky in Italy has teamed up with Nagra, which will provide broadcast and direct-to-TV content protection technologies for its new DVB-T pay TV service.

Nagra will use its Broadcast Headend security platform to protect the new terrestrial service, which available on Sky Italia DVB-T set-top boxes and Conditional Access Modules (CAM) for digital TVs.

The Sky service offers four channels of entertainment, eight cinema and series channels, and sports channels featuring premium sports content including Serie A football, UEFA Champions League and Europa League, Formula One auto racing and MotoGP Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

Sky’s launch of a DVB-T service follows its deal earlier this year with Mediaset, that saw Sky make cinema and TV series channels from Mediaset Premium available to its satellite customers, while Sky created a a new digital-terrestrial pay TV offering of its own to be made available to Italian DTT viewers via Mediaset’s transmission capacity.
